Kyoto (Kyoto prefecture) is a city that I discovered in October 2010 during an internship.
It is located on the big island of Honshū. It is easy to get there. As far as I’m concerned, my departure was from the city of Tsukuba.
First, I took the fast train to Tokyo. Then I took the shinkansen train to Kyoto (Tsukuba city-> Tokyo-> Nagoya city-> Kyoto). The shinkansen is fast and very comfortable. It is expensive but it is a beautiful experience. I do not know if prices have changed since 2010. The journey (about 500 km) lasts around 3 hours.
For major trips in Japan, use the Hyperdia website http://www.hyperdia.com/en. I have used it many times and it is effective.
Kyoto is well known for its temples and parks. In the past, the city was commanded by Shogun. I had the pleasure of visiting some old Shogun castles (not only in Kyoto) and I can recommend it to you.
I advise visitors to visit the castle of Nijo (built 400 years ago) and belonged to the Tokogawa Shogun family, also the golden castle of Kinkaku-ji, also the Kiyomizu temple, Tokyo Imperial Palace etc…
I also advise them to lunch in a traditional Japanese restaurant a dish named: Okonomiyaki. It is not recommended for vegan but I believe that you can choose yourself ingredients with vegetables.

Kyoto é bem conhecida por seus templos e parques. No passado, a cidade foi comandada por Shogun. Tive o prazer de visitar alguns antigos castelos Shogun (não só em Kyoto) e posso recomendá-los a vocês.
Aconselho uma visitar ao castelo de Nijo (construído há 400 anos) e pertenceu à família Tokogawa Shogun, também ao castelo dourado de Kinkaku-ji e ao templo Kiyomizu, o Palácio Imperial de Tóquio, etc…
Eu também os aconselho a almoçar em um restaurante japonês tradicional pedindo um prato chamado: Okonomiyaki. Não é recomendado para vegetarianos, mas acredito que você pode escolher ingredientes com vegetais.
