Hakone is one of the most beautiful cities in Japan. Ten years ago, I went to Japan and I had the pleasure to visit Hakone ! And I returned two years later, in 2008. So, you can take the Odakyu Railway from, for example, Shinjuku to Hakone.
Hakone is located in Fuji-Hakone-Izu park, west of Tokyo in Kanagawa Prefecture. It is characterized by the presence of big lake: Lake Ashi (7.2 square kilometers), the presence of a volcano and rivers. Famous onsen are present in Hakone (in some hotels but there is also public onsen) but I did not try any of them. I had not enough time !! However, as many places in Japan, Hakone is known for its Shinto shrines.
What I liked most is cruise on the lake with a pirate ship. A part of trip was by night but it was funny too. You can use the Hakone freepass for this. I appreciated also the ride on the cable car. This cable car passes through the volcanic valley called Ōwakudani, rich in sulfur and other minerals from where the fumes of boiling yellowish water provide.
Moreover, I recommend the Picasso Museum. Several works of art are exposed outdoors on the grass and on the paths. The animal, human and other sculptures are represented on a large scale.
What I liked in this region is the mixture of spiritual serenity and physical well-being thanks to the fresh air and the pleasure of the eyes (abundant natural landscapes and rich biodiversity). It is a calm region. I recommend Hakone !

Eu recomendo Hakone!
